Hue Imperial City: A Day Trip (or Epic Ride) from Hoi An

What to see at the Hue Imperial City

Hue’s UNESCO-listed Imperial City (the Citadel) is the star: vast walls and gates enclosing the Forbidden Purple City and royal palaces. Beyond it, the elaborate tombs of emperors Minh Mang, Tu Duc and Khai Dinh dot the countryside, while Thien Mu Pagoda watches over the Perfume River. How far is Hue from Hoi An?

It’s about 120 kilometres each way, crossing the spectacular Hai Van Pass. By car that’s roughly 2.5-3 hours; on a motorbike with photo stops, plan 4 hours or more.
