Electric Bike Rental Hoi An: VinFast E-Scooters from 200,000₫, No Licence Needed (2026)

Electric bike rental in Hoi An is the easiest legal way for foreign visitors to ride: no licence, no IDP, just your passport. Anh Khoa rents VinFast e-scooters from 200,000₫ a day with free battery swaps, free hotel pick-up in town and 24/7 support.

If your home licence does not qualify in Vietnam — and for most visitors it does not — an electric bike is the answer. Electric two-wheelers in the VinFast class need no licence and no International Driving Permit, so you ride legally with nothing more than your passport. They are silent, cost nothing to “fuel”, and are quick enough for Hoi An traffic. Anh Khoa rents them from 84 Phan Chau Trinh, one block from the Ancient Town.

Why an electric bike in Hoi An

Hoi An is flat, compact and slow. The Ancient Town, An Bang beach, Tra Que vegetable village and the Cam Thanh coconut forest all sit within about 6 km of the shop, and the lanes between them are paddy-field roads where a petrol engine feels like overkill. An electric bike matches that pace: silent past the rice fields, no fumes in the lantern streets, and no petrol stops. Two people fit comfortably on the VinFast, and the mini e-scooter parks in a doorway.

The other reason is legal. Riding a 110cc scooter without a valid Vietnamese-recognised licence risks a fine and voids insurance; an electric bike in this class does not need one. For many of our guests that alone settles the choice.

Which electric bike suits you

  • Two of you, several stops a day — the VinFast. Two proper seats, 50 km/h top speed and enough storage for a beach bag; it keeps up with Hoi An traffic without effort.
  • Riding solo, mostly the Old Town and An Bang — the mini e-scooter. Small enough to weave through the market and park anywhere; battery sized for town.
  • You would rather pedal — the pedal-assist e-bicycle. The motor flattens the headwind on the beach road and the 3 km to Tra Que; it uses the bicycle lanes.
  • Full day to My Son or Da Nang — take a petrol scooter or a 50cc bike instead. Electric bikes are built for town and nearby villages; see the range section below.

Licence rules for foreigners

VehicleLicence needed in Vietnam? What to bring
Electric scooter (VinFast, mini) · e-bicycleNo — no licence, no IDPPassport (a photo is fine at the shop)
50cc petrol scooterNoPassport
110–160cc automatic scooterYes — a licence valid in VietnamVietnamese licence, or a 1968-Convention IDP with a matching home licence

Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger on every two-wheeler, electric included — both are in the box. Carry your passport photo and the rental contract; if you are stopped, our guide on what to do if the police stop you covers the rest.

Range, charging and battery swaps

Plan an electric bike around town and the villages within about 10 km — the Ancient Town, An Bang, Cua Dai, Tra Que, Cam Thanh, Thanh Ha pottery village — all under 6 km from the shop. That is a full day of riding on one charge. When the gauge drops, ride back to 84 Phan Chau Trinh and we swap the battery for a charged one in about two minutes, free, as many times as you like. Overnight, charge from any wall socket at your hotel.

💡 Da Nang or My Son on an e-bike? Da Nang is 28 km each way and My Son 38 km (measured on Google Maps from the shop); both are long petrol-scooter days. If you must go electric, swap to a full battery just before you leave and tell us your plan when you book so we can advise — or take a petrol bike for that day and switch back to electric for the rest of the week.
