Description
Ride the Hai Van Pass, finish in Hue — no ride back. Our Hoi An to Hue motorbike rental is one way: pick up the bike in Hoi An, ride about 140 km north over the Hai Van Pass, and hand it over at our partner point in Hue. Your bags travel separately, so you ride light.
The route: Hoi An → Da Nang → Hai Van Pass → Lang Co → Hue
From our shop it is about 142 km to the drop-off in Hue on the road over the pass (measured on Google Maps). Plan on around four hours of riding and a full day with stops. The first hour is flat: north along the coast road through Da Nang, past the Marble Mountains and My Khe Beach. Fill up in Da Nang — there is nowhere to buy petrol on the pass itself.
Then the road climbs. On a motorbike you must take the old QL1A road over the Hai Van Pass — motorbikes are not allowed in the Hai Van tunnel or on the expressway, which is exactly why this ride is worth doing.
At the summit
The top of the pass is the main stop of the day. The old stone gate of Hai Van Quan sits right on the ridge, with the ruins of bunkers around it and views back over Da Nang Bay on one side and Lang Co on the other. Give yourself 30–45 minutes here; there are small stalls selling drinks and snacks.

Down to Lang Co and on to Hue
The north side drops down to Lang Co, a sandbar between the sea and a calm lagoon — a good place for a seafood lunch. From there the road runs flatter through Phu Loc and the rice fields of Thua Thien Hue, past Lap An Lagoon, and into the city.

Tips for riding Hoi An to Hue
- Start early. Leave Hoi An by 7:00–8:00 to reach the summit in good light and Hue by mid-afternoon.
- Fuel up in Da Nang. Every petrol bike comes with 1 litre to get you to the first station — top up before the climb, or add a full tank of petrol (+200,000₫) when you book and skip the stop.
- Watch the weather. The wettest months in Central Vietnam are roughly October to December, when the pass is often wet and foggy. Our raincoats are in the seat.
- Wear long sleeves. The summit is noticeably cooler and windier than the coast.

Can I ride through the Hai Van tunnel instead of over the pass?
No. Motorbikes are not allowed in the Hai Van tunnel or on the expressway, so you ride the old road over the pass.

What deposit do I need?
2,000,000₫ refundable, or a copy / photo of your passport. We never keep your original passport.
Terms & Conditions
- You must hold a valid driving licence applicable to the vehicle category you are renting. No license is required for electric bikes and 50cc models.
- Minimum age to rent: 18 years old.
- You are responsible for all traffic fines, penalties, and violations incurred during the rental period.
- Wearing a helmet is mandatory at all times while riding.
- Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.
- You must not sub-rent, lend, or transfer the motorbike to any third party.
- The motorbike must be kept safe and securely locked when not in use.
- Please inspect the motorbike thoroughly before departure and report any existing damage to our staff.
- No modifications, alterations, or tampering with the motorbike are permitted.
- Off-road use is not permitted unless the model is specifically designed for it.
- The motorbike must be used for personal transportation purposes only.
- You are responsible for fuel costs during the rental period, unless the Full Tank add-on is selected. Electric bikes: battery swaps at our shop are always free.
- Free self-pickup at our office: 84 Phan Chau Trinh, Hoi An.
- Hotel / door delivery is available for 30,000 VND within Hoi An city.
- Delivery and pickup hours: 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM daily.
- The motorbike must be returned at the agreed location and time.
- Late returns are charged at one additional rental-day rate per 24 hours overdue.
- Please notify us at least 2 hours in advance if you need to change your return time or location.
- Full payment is required at the time of pickup.
- A security deposit of 2,000,000 VND (or a copy of your passport) is required.
- The deposit is fully refunded upon return of the motorbike in the same condition.
- No refund is given for early returns, unless agreed upon in advance.
- Accepted payment methods: cash (VND) or bank transfer.
- You are financially responsible for all damage to the motorbike, regardless of fault.
- In the event of an accident, contact us immediately before making any payment to police or third parties.
- Do not admit liability or pay any fine or compensation without first consulting us.
- Motorbike insurance (if purchased) covers partial repair costs — refer to insurance terms for details.
- In the event of theft or total loss, the replacement cost will be charged to you.
- Minor scratches and normal wear are exempt; significant damage will be assessed and charged at cost of repair.
