Who the one-way rental is actually for

Most people who rent a bike in Hoi An ride it around Hoi An. They take it to An Bang for the afternoon, out to the rice fields at Tra Que, down to Cua Dai for a sunset, and bring it back to the same shop at the end of the day. That is a round trip, and a normal daily rental covers it.

The one-way rental is a different thing. It is for the day you are leaving Hoi An for good — flying out of Da Nang, checking into a beach hotel on My Khe, catching a night train north — and you would rather spend that transfer riding the coast than sitting in the back of a car looking at your phone. You pick the bike up in Hoi An, ride it north, hand it over in Da Nang, and walk away. Nobody has to ride back.

That last sentence is the whole point. A standard rental forces a return trip, which turns a 47-minute ride into a two-hour round trip you do on your last morning with your luggage still at the hotel. The one-way rental removes it.

It suits four groups in particular: travellers with a flight out of Da Nang later in the day, couples moving from the Old Town to a beach hotel, riders who want the Hai Van Pass next and are staging north in two legs, and anyone who simply wants one last ride before Hoi An becomes a photo album.

Hoi An to Da Nang one way: what it costs in 2026

The one-way fee is 400,000₫ per bike, per way. That is the whole rental — the bike, the ride, and the drop-off in Da Nang — not a surcharge on top of a daily rate. Luggage forwarding is separate, at 50,000₫ per bag.

Two things worth saying plainly, because rental pricing in this town is not always said plainly. First, the 400,000₫ is per bike, not per person — two of you on one scooter is one fee. Second, there is no fuel deposit, no “cleaning fee” waiting at the other end, and no charge for the helmets. What you are quoted is what you pay.

If you are pricing this against a normal rental: a daily automatic scooter in Hoi An starts around 110,000–150,000₫ a day. The one-way costs more than a single day because the bike has to be brought back to Hoi An afterwards, and someone has to do that. You are paying for the return leg you are not riding.

A one-way price is really the price of somebody else riding back. That is why it is not the same as a day rental — and why the honest version of it is a flat fee, not a surprise at the drop-off.

What the Hoi An to Da Nang one way rental includes

Every one-way booking comes with the same kit as a normal rental, plus the drop-off arrangement:

• The bike, fuelled and checked that morning — automatic scooters for most people, semi-automatic and manual if you ask.
• Two helmets. Not one. If you are riding alone you still get the spare, because a pillion often appears halfway through a trip.
• A phone holder and a paper map on request — the paper map matters more than people expect on the stretch where the coast road loses signal.
• Free delivery to your hotel inside the Old Town, so you do not have to walk to the shop with your bags.
• The drop-off in Da Nang, at our partner point or at your Da Nang hotel.
• 24/7 roadside support on +84 766 766 087 — the number to call if anything goes wrong between the two cities.

What is not included: petrol beyond the tank you leave with (the run uses roughly a litre, so this is small money), any traffic fines you collect, and parking in Da Nang. Nothing else.

Luggage forwarding: how the bags get there

This is the part that makes the whole idea workable, and it is the question we get most often. You are checking out of a Hoi An hotel with two backpacks and a wheeled case. You cannot ride 28 km with a wheeled case.

So we take it. For 50,000₫ per bag, your luggage goes to Da Nang by road and is waiting for you at the drop-off point or delivered to your Da Nang hotel. You ride with a day bag and nothing else.

Practical notes from doing this a lot:

Keep your passport, phone, money and anything you need at the airport on you, not in the forwarded bag. Not because the bag is at risk — because you will reach Da Nang before it does if you ride straight there, and you do not want to stand outside a hotel waiting for your own passport.

Where you leave the bike in Da Nang

Two options, and you choose when you book:

At our partner point in Da Nang — 136 Hoang Bich Son St. It is on the south side of the city, close to the beach end of things and a short Grab ride from the Han River. You park, hand over the key and the helmets, and that is the end of the rental.

At your Da Nang hotel. If you are checking into a hotel anywhere in the city, ride to it, park where the hotel parks bikes, and we collect from there. Tell us the hotel name when you book so the collection is arranged before you set off.

To be straight about how this works: Anh Khoa’s own bikes and staff are in Hoi An. In Da Nang we work with a partner, which is why the drop-off address is theirs and not a second shop of ours. It makes no difference to what you pay or what you do — but you should know who you are handing the key to.

The two roads north, measured

There are three ways to make this ride. We measured all of them from the Old Town to the Dragon Bridge:

Here is the thing most guides get backwards, including the earlier version of this page: the pretty road is also the short one. The coast road is not a scenic detour you pay for in time — it is the fastest of the three, by two minutes over the inland road and by seven over the highway. There is no trade-off to weigh. Take the coast.

The road itself is flat, wide, well surfaced and almost boring to ride, in the best sense: no passes, no gravel, no mountain switchbacks. What to stop for on the way

Forty-seven minutes is the no-stop time. Nobody does it in forty-seven minutes. Budget half a day and use it.

An Bang Beach — 4 km out of Hoi An, first stop, coffee with your feet in the sand. The Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) sit 18.1 km from the Old Town, 30 minutes in, directly on the coast road; the lift up Thuy Son and the caves inside take about ninety minutes and there is guarded bike parking at the base. Non Nuoc Beach is immediately past them, and it is emptier than My Khe.

Then the city: the Dragon Bridge, which breathes fire on weekend nights, My Khe Beach for the afternoon, and the Son Tra Peninsula if you still have the bike and the light. Licence, passport and deposit

Licence. A valid motorbike licence is required to rent and ride a scooter in Vietnam. For foreign riders that means a licence valid here — in practice an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention, together with your home licence. A 1949 Geneva-convention IDP is not valid in Vietnam, and that is the single most common paperwork mistake we see.

Deposit. Normally none. We ask to see your passport or ID at handover for verification and give it straight back — we do not hold passports.

One way by scooter vs bus, Grab and private car

We rent bikes. We do not run buses, shuttles or private cars, so the comparison below is not us selling you the option we happen to own — and that is exactly why it is worth reading.

If there are four of you with luggage, a car is the sensible answer and we will say so. If there are one or two of you, you ride, and you would rather arrive in Da Nang having seen the 28 kilometres, the scooter wins and the price difference is small. How to book, and what happens on the day

Booking takes about two minutes on Zalo (0935 439 306) or WhatsApp (+84 935 206 306). Tell us four things: the date, the bike type, how many bags you want forwarded, and where you are dropping off in Da Nang. That is the entire booking.

On the day:

1. We deliver the bike to your Hoi An hotel, or you collect it from 84 Phan Chau Trinh.
2. Five minutes of handover — brakes, lights, fuel, helmets, a photo of the bike as it stands.
3. We take the bags you are forwarding.
4. You ride. Stop as much as you like; there is no clock on the one-way.
5. You park at the Da Nang partner point or your Da Nang hotel, hand over the key and helmets, and collect your luggage.
