From a hidden riverview speakeasy to Irish pubs on “bar street” — here are 10 best bars in Hoi An Old Town, checked against real reviews and updated for 2026.
Hoi An Old Town isn’t just lantern-lit streets and tailor shops — after dark, it has a proper little nightlife scene. This list of the best bars in Hoi An Old Town mixes the classic “bar street” pubs on Nguyen Phuc Chu with a few standouts we found by actually checking recent Google and TripAdvisor reviews, from a 5-star hidden speakeasy to a rooftop terrace over the cloth market.

№ 01How we picked these bars
The original version of this list only covered five pubs clustered on Nguyen Phuc Chu street. For this update we re-checked every one of those five against current Google and TripAdvisor ratings, fixed a couple of details that had gone stale (more on that below), and added five more bars from other corners of the Old Town — a rooftop terrace, a hidden speakeasy, a Mexican cocktail den, a reggae bar on the river, and Hoi An’s highest rooftop view.
A couple of the original five bar-street pubs currently have mixed reviews online (billing complaints, inconsistent service). We’re keeping them on the list since they’re still popular and easy to find, but we’ve added an honest note under each one — check your bill before you pay, same as anywhere with a big tourist crowd.
№ 0210 best bars in Hoi An Old Town
1. Speakeasy Moon Bar (Moon Bar)
Tucked behind a hidden entrance on the river side of Nguyen Phuc Chu, Moon Bar bills itself as a “riverview hidden bar” and delivers exactly that — vintage lamps, jazz playing low, and a bartender who actually cares about the cocktail in front of you. It has by far the largest and most consistent review base of any bar in this list, which is rare for a place that still feels like a genuine hidden find. Go for the whiskey sours and grab a seat by the water if it’s free.
2. Market Bar – Market Terrace
A rooftop terrace built right into the old cloth market, with a clear view over the river and the market stalls below as the town lights up for the evening. The gin & tonic list is the main draw — plenty of infusions to pick from — and happy hour (4–6 PM) is one of the better deals on this list. Small food plates too, so it works for an early sundowner before dinner.
3. Mezcal Cocteleria
Vietnam’s first agave-and-mezcal-focused cocktail bar, hidden up a staircase above a restaurant with brick archways, candlelight and Mexican artwork on the walls. It’s small, it’s a genuine speakeasy in feel rather than just in name, and the tequila/mezcal cocktail list is unlike anything else in the Old Town. Worth booking ahead on weekends — there isn’t much seating.
4. Bob Marley Bar Hoian
A relaxed, reggae-themed bar right on the river side of Nguyen Phuc Chu, with cheap draft beer (from around 30K VND), a laid-back crowd and nightly karaoke that gets going once the sun’s down. Live music some months too. It’s more of a “settle in for the evening” bar than a dance spot — good pick if Why Not or Tiger Tiger feel too loud.
5. The Deck Rooftop Bar
Hoi An’s highest rooftop bar, with panoramic views over the Old Town’s tiled roofs and the Thu Bon River — genuinely one of the best sunset spots in town. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the historic core rather than right in it, so it’s less “wander in off the street” and more “worth the short trip,” especially with the 6–7 PM and 9–10 PM buy-one-get-one happy hours.
6. Wanderlust Hoi An
The most relaxed spot on bar street — good coffee and breakfast by day, cocktails and a chill soundtrack by night, with cozy decor that makes it easy to linger. Correction: earlier versions of this article listed Wanderlust’s hours as “9am–1pm,” which was wrong — it’s open well into the evening, not just for a few morning hours.
7. The Shamrock Irish Pub Hoi An
An honest slice of an Irish pub in the middle of the Old Town — decent Guinness, a solid whiskey and cocktail list, and live music most evenings. Reviews are a mixed bag (as with most bar-street pubs that see a huge nightly turnover of tourists), but it’s still one of the more reliable “meet friends, watch a match, have a pint” options on this street.
8. Why Not Club Bar Hoi An
The latest-closing bar on this list and the go-to if you actually want to dance — loud music, a packed dance floor most nights, and drink promotions that keep the crowd moving. Worth knowing: a number of recent reviews mention being charged more than expected, especially when large tour groups are in — check your bill and confirm drink prices before you order.
9. Tiger Tiger Bar
Open longer than almost anywhere else in town — early risers and the 3 AM crowd both get served here. It’s the loudest, most party-focused spot on the street, and reviews online are more mixed than the others on this list (drink quality and pricing come up most). Go for the energy and the hours, not for a quiet cocktail.
10. The LyLy Irish Pub & Sports Bar Hoi An
Multiple screens for live sport and a cozy pub layout — still the easiest place on bar street to catch a match. We’re being upfront here: recent TripAdvisor reviews for LyLy are the weakest on this list, with several complaints about overcharging and service. Correction: earlier versions of this article listed opening at 1 PM — current listings show it opens later, at 4:30 PM. If sports coverage is what you’re after, it’s still an option, just double-check your tab.
№ 03Tips for a night out in Old Town
- Nguyen Phuc Chu (“bar street”) has five bars within about 200m of each other, so it’s easy to bar-hop on foot — start early at Market Bar or Wanderlust, move to Bob Marley or Shamrock for the evening, and finish at Why Not or Tiger Tiger if you want to dance.
- Double-check your bill at any of the busier bar-street spots, especially when a large tour group is in — a few venues on this list have had recent complaints about overcharging.
- Speakeasy Moon Bar and Mezcal Cocteleria are small and can fill up fast on weekends — go earlier in the evening or message ahead if you want a table.
- Most bars in the Old Town are walkable from any Ancient Town hotel; The Deck Rooftop Bar is the one exception at about 10 minutes’ walk from the historic core.
- Don’t ride a motorbike after drinking — Hoi An traffic police do run checks at night, and it’s not worth the risk. Walk, grab a Grab/taxi, or park the bike and pick it up the next day.
If you’ve rented a motorbike or scooter for your trip, leave it parked before a night out on bar street. Drink-driving fines in Vietnam are steep and enforcement has picked up around Hoi An in the evenings. Anh Khoa’s rental terms (like most in town) don’t cover accidents caused by riding under the influence.
Nguyen Phuc Chu is where most visitors end up on their first night, but honestly some of our favorites — Moon Bar, Mezcal — aren’t on that street at all. Worth wandering a block or two off the obvious strip.— Anh Khoa, Hoi An local
Lantern boat first, bars after
