These are our real daily rates, straight from the booking system. Longer rentals drop the daily price — a week is cheaper per day than three days, and a month is cheaper again. Ask us for the weekly or monthly figure before you book.

Rates are per 24 hours and include two helmets. Prices change with season and stock — the product page always shows the current figure.

№ 05Insurance and damage

Every bike carries the compulsory Vietnamese third-party insurance required by law. That covers damage you cause to other people — it does not cover the bike you are riding, and it does not cover you medically. That is the same for every rental shop in Vietnam, whatever they tell you.

Small scratches from a parking-lot tip-over we generally absorb — it happens, and we would rather you tell us than hide it. Real damage is charged at the repair cost, shown to you with the mechanic’s invoice, never a made-up number. Full detail on our rental insurance page.

№ 06Licence rules for foreigners

The honest version, because a lot of sites are vague about this. To ride a motorbike over 50cc in Vietnam legally you need either a Vietnamese licence, or an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention together with your home licence. An IDP issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention — which is what many countries, including the United States and Australia, still issue — is not valid here.

№ 07Riding safely in Hoi An

Hoi An is one of the gentler places in Vietnam to start riding. Traffic in the centre moves slowly, the roads out to the beach are wide and flat, and there are no mountain passes unless you go looking for them. That said, a few things genuinely matter.

• The Ancient Town is closed to motorbikes for most of the day — park outside and walk in
• Traffic merges rather than stops. Move predictably and slowly and people will flow around you
• Use the horn as a greeting, not an insult — a short beep means “I am beside you”
• Wear the helmet properly. Police checks are routine on the Da Nang road and the fine is real
• Avoid riding after dark on rural roads — unlit bicycles and livestock are the actual hazard
• Never drink and ride. Enforcement in Vietnam is strict and the penalties are severe
• Sand on the beach roads after rain is slippery. Slow down for the corner at An Bang

Petrol is easy — there are stations on Cua Dai, Hai Ba Trung and Ly Thuong Kiet, all open early until late, and small roadside sellers with bottles when you are out of town. Expect around 24,000₫ a litre. Paid parking is available at the Ancient Town gates, An Bang beach and the central market, usually 5,000₫ for a bike.

No hidden conditions, no clauses that only appear when something goes wrong. This is the whole of it.

№ 09Rentals we can adjust

Most bookings are simple — one bike, a few days, delivered to a hotel. These are the ones that need a conversation first.

• Long stays. Weekly and monthly rates are well below the daily figure. If you are here a month, ask — the difference is large
• Groups. We can put four or five bikes at the same hotel at the same hour; tell us a day ahead so we can stage them
• Child seats and extra helmets. Available free, but say so when booking rather than on the doorstep
• One-way rides. Hue to Hoi An over the Hai Van Pass, or a Da Nang airport drop, both arranged in advance
• Swapping mid-rental. Started on an e-bike and now want a scooter? We swap it, free, and only charge the difference in rate
• Luggage racks and phone holders. Fitted before delivery on request

№ 10Why ride rather than book tours

You can see Hoi An from the back of a van. It is just a much smaller version of the place.

№ 11A little about Hoi An

Hoi An was a working port from the fifteenth century, trading with Japanese, Chinese, Dutch and Portuguese merchants until the Thu Bon river silted up and the business moved to Da Nang. That decline is the reason the town survives — nobody had the money to knock it down and rebuild, so the merchant houses, the assembly halls and the Japanese Bridge stayed. UNESCO listed the Ancient Town in 1999.

What that means for a rider: the centre is compact and largely closed to motorbikes in the daytime, so you park at the edge and walk. Everything genuinely worth riding to sits within an hour — beaches east, Tra Que and the paddy north, My Son west into the hills, Da Nang and the Marble Mountains up the coast. The land is flat until you deliberately go looking for mountains, which makes this an unusually forgiving place to ride for the first time.

Best months to ride are February through May — dry, warm, not yet fierce. June to August is hot but fine early and late. October and November bring the heaviest rain and occasional flooding in the Ancient Town; we still rent, and we still hand out ponchos, but check the forecast before planning a mountain day. Can I rent a motorbike without an international or local driver’s licence?

Yes — on anything 50cc or under, and on every electric bike, no motorcycle licence is required in Vietnam. For a bike over 50cc the law requires a Vietnamese licence, or an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention together with your home licence. An IDP issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention is not valid in Vietnam. We will rent to you either way, but we will tell you honestly where you stand.

Are helmets provided with the rental?

Yes, two with every bike, cleaned between rentals. Helmets are compulsory in Vietnam for rider and passenger, and police checks on the Da Nang road are routine. If the fit is wrong, tell us and we will swap it.

What types of motorbikes are available for rent?

Automatic scooters (Honda Vision, Air Blade, Yamaha Janus), electric bikes needing no licence, 50cc petrol bikes, semi-automatics and manuals (Honda Wave, Yamaha PG-1, Winner 150), big touring scooters (NVX, PCX 160, NMAX 155) and sport or adventure bikes (Yamaha R15, WR155R, Honda ADV 160). How much does it cost to rent a motorbike in Hoi An?

From 120,000₫ a day (about $4.7) for an automatic scooter. Budget scooters start at 110,000₫, electric bikes from 100,000₫, big touring scooters run 250,000₫ to 400,000₫, and sport or adventure bikes 450,000₫ to 500,000₫. Longer rentals cost less per day — ask us for the weekly or monthly rate.

Is fuel included in the rental price?

No. The bike goes out with fuel in the tank and you return it roughly as you found it. A full tank on a scooter is around 70,000₫ and will take you to Da Nang and back with plenty to spare. Petrol is about 24,000₫ a litre.

What happens if I return the motorbike late?

An hour or two is not a problem — just message us. Beyond that we charge pro rata rather than a penalty, and if you want to extend by a day or more, tell us and we will simply add it at the normal daily rate.

Do you provide maps or travel tips?

Yes. Every rental comes with a paper map of the region with the routes we actually recommend marked on it, and we will happily spend ten minutes showing you where to go and where not to. The route guides on this page are the same advice, written down.

Should I choose an electric, automatic, semi-automatic or manual bike?

Never ridden before: electric — no licence, no gears, quiet, and fast enough for town and beach. Ridden a scooter on holiday: automatic, and the Honda Vision or Air Blade is the safe pick. Ride at home and want gears: semi-auto or manual. Heading for Ba Na Hills or the Hai Van Pass: 150cc or bigger, and bring your licence.

Can I have the motorbike delivered to my hotel?

Yes, free anywhere in the Hoi An centre, and we collect from wherever you finish. For An Bang, Cua Dai or Da Nang, ask us when you book — usually still free, occasionally a small fee depending on the distance and time.

Are the motorbikes in good condition?

We own our fleet and service it ourselves every week rather than between customers. Tyres, brakes, lights and chain are checked before every hand-over, and you get a two-minute test ride before you sign anything. If a bike does not feel right, do not take it — say so and we will bring another.

What should I do if I have a problem with the bike?

Call or WhatsApp +84 935 206 306 at any hour. If it is a flat tyre or a flat battery we come to you. If it is anything bigger we swap the bike out, wherever you are within reasonable distance of Hoi An. You are not left to work it out yourself.

Can I ride the motorbike outside Hoi An?

Yes — Da Nang, My Son, Ba Na Hills, Hue over the Hai Van Pass, all fine. Just tell us where you are heading so we give you a bike suited to it and top up the paperwork. For multi-day trips we can also do a one-way rental between Hue and Hoi An.

What happens if the motorbike is damaged or stolen?

Small scratches from a parking tip-over we generally absorb. Real damage is charged at the actual repair cost and we show you the mechanic’s invoice — never an invented number. Always use the wheel lock we provide and park in paid parking overnight; theft is rare in Hoi An but it is not zero.

Is insurance included with the rental?

Every bike carries the compulsory Vietnamese third-party insurance, which covers damage you cause to other people. It does not cover the bike you are riding or your own medical costs — that is true of every rental in Vietnam. Check whether your travel policy covers motorbike riding, and note that most only do so if you hold a licence valid here.

Can I return the motorbike to a different location?

Within Hoi An and Da Nang, yes, including Da Nang airport. One-way between Hue and Hoi An is a separate arrangement — message us with the dates and we will quote it.
