How to rent a motorbike in Da Nang step by step

Da Nang motorbike rental is quick, cheap and low-hassle once you know the routine. Here is how to do it right:

  1. Book ahead in summer. Đà Nẵng’s beach season (roughly May–August) is busy, so message a shop a day or two early — or arrange free hotel delivery so the bike is waiting.
  2. Bring your papers. Carry your passport, home driving licence and an International Driving Permit. Most shops take a passport photo or a cash deposit rather than the original.
  3. Inspect the bike. Test the brakes, lights, horn and mirrors, and photograph any scratches before you ride off so the deposit dispute never happens.
  4. Agree the deposit. Expect a passport copy or 1–3 million₫. Get the daily rate, the fuel policy and the return time written down or sent over Zalo.
  5. Check fuel & helmets. Bikes often leave nearly empty — fill up at the first station. Insist on two decent helmets, especially before the Hải Vân Pass.
  6. Ask about delivery & one-way. Many Đà Nẵng shops deliver free to your hotel or the airport, and some offer one-way rentals on to Huế or Hội An.

Licence & law for foreigners

Ride legally — Đà Nẵng’s coast roads and the Hải Vân Pass are regularly policed.

📋 The law To ride any bike over 50cc in Vietnam you need an International Driving Permit under the 1968 Vienna Convention together with your home licence. A 1949 (Geneva) IDP is not valid in Vietnam, and your travel insurance will not pay out if you ride unlicensed. Carry both documents and always wear a helmet.
🌊 Coast & pass tips The Hải Vân Pass is stunning but has tight bends and quick weather changes — ride it in the morning, take the curves slowly and pull over at the viewpoints rather than stopping mid-bend.

Safety & riding tips

🛡️ Ride smart Đà Nẵng is one of Vietnam’s easiest cities to ride, but a few pointers help.
  • Respect the Hải Vân Pass. Take the bends slowly, watch for tour buses and loose gravel, and check your brakes before you climb.
  • Mind the beach road. The coast road is wide and fast — signal early, and watch for pedestrians and cyclists near the resorts at dusk.
  • Carry rain gear. The wet season (roughly September–December) brings heavy downpours, so keep a poncho under the seat.
  • Park in guarded lots. Use attended parking (giữ xe) at the beach, Marble Mountains and Ancient Town, and take your ticket.
  • Keep the shop’s Zalo. A quick message sorts a flat tyre or a swap fast — the best shops offer 24/7 roadside help.
