Most price guides for Hoi An stop at a single line: “scooters cost about four to eight dollars a day.” That is true and almost useless. The number you actually pay depends on which bike, how many days, whether you need it delivered, and how far you plan to ride once you have it. This guide puts all of that on one page, with the daily rates taken straight from our booking system in October 2026 rather than copied from an old blog post.

We run a rental shop at 84 Phan Chau Trinh, so we have an obvious interest in you renting from us. We have tried to make this guide useful whoever you rent from: the price ranges, the hidden costs and the warning signs below apply to every shop in town.

Motorbike rental Hoi An price at a glance

If you only read one section, read this one. Pick the line that matches your trip and you will know roughly what to budget before you open a single product page.

For most couples staying three or four days and riding around Hoi An, An Bang and Da Nang, the honest answer is a 150,000–180,000₫ automatic. Paying more buys comfort and looks, not a better holiday. Paying less is fine for one rider on short hops, less so for two adults on the coast road to Da Nang.

The full 2026 price list, bike by bike

These are the daily rates for all 35 bikes in our rental catalogue, read from our booking system on 7 October 2026. Prices move with the season and with stock, so the product page always shows the current figure. Dollar amounts are rounded and only a guide.

What the daily rate includes

A fair Hoi An motorbike rental cost should cover everything you need to ride away safely. With us the daily rate includes:

• Two helmets, one for the rider and one for a passenger.
• A rain poncho, which matters from September to December when the afternoon storms arrive.
• A phone holder and a paper map of the routes we recommend.
• One litre of petrol on petrol bikes, enough to reach a proper station.
• 24/7 roadside help on +84 766 766 087: a flat tyre or a bike that will not start is our problem, not yours.

The costs nobody mentions

The daily rate is the headline. These are the small items that turn a 150,000₫ day into a 200,000₫ day. None of them is expensive, but you should know about them before you budget.

Petrol is the one people overestimate. Vietnam sets fuel prices every week, and Petrolimex, the state retailer, publishes the current figure on its own website. In early October 2026 that was about 27,000₫ a litre, so filling a typical automatic from empty costs roughly 110,000–135,000₫. What a day trip really costs

Few price guides go this far: what the most popular rides cost once petrol and parking are added. We measured each distance on Google Maps from our shop at 84 Phan Chau Trinh and assumed a typical automatic using around 2 litres per 100 km, which is a fair real-world figure for a 110–125cc scooter in mixed riding.

Two people sharing one bike halves those numbers per person. That is the real argument for renting: a whole day at the beach, Da Nang or My Son for about 100,000₫ each, with no meter running and no group tour schedule. The bike is the cheapest thing you will pay for in Hoi An. The coffee stop on the way to the beach costs more than the petrol.

We do not run taxis, Grab or tours, so take our comparison with that in mind: if you plan only one short trip a day, a ride-hailing app may well be cheaper. Weekly and monthly rates

Staying longer brings the daily rate down. Our rule is simple: 7 days or more saves 10%, and 30 days or more saves 30% on the daily price.

No licence: what it does to the price

Without a motorbike licence and a 1968 IDP, the legal choice is a 50cc scooter, an electric scooter or an electric bicycle. That narrows the price list to three levels:

• 100,000₫: electric bicycle with pedal assist. Quiet, light and slow; ideal for the Old Town, Tra Que and An Bang.
• 120,000–150,000₫: small electric scooters (Mi-ni Baby, Mini Electric). Easy for short rides around town.
• 200,000₫: a proper 50cc scooter (SYM Shark, KYMCO Like) or the VinFast electric. These carry two people and manage Da Nang.

So going licence-free costs you a little more per day than a basic petrol scooter, but it keeps you legal and keeps your travel insurance valid, which is worth far more than the 50,000–90,000₫ difference. The details are in our guide to renting a motorbike in Hoi An without a licence.

Cheap vs too cheap: how to judge a price

You will see “$3 a day” signs around town. Sometimes that is a genuine low-season deal. More often the saving is hiding somewhere you only find out about later: worn tyres, weak brakes, no one answering the phone when the bike dies 20 km away, or a “scratch fee” invented at return.

Three questions sort a fair price from a trap:

1. What happens if it breaks down? A good answer is a phone number and someone who comes to you. A shrug is the real price of the cheap bike.
2. What do you keep as a deposit? Cash or a copy of your passport is normal. Keeping the original passport is not, and it gives the shop all the leverage in any dispute.
3. Can I photograph the bike now? Any shop that minds is telling you something. Take photos of every side, the tyres and the fuel gauge before you ride off.

The same logic applies to us. If our price looks high for a particular model, ask why; usually the answer is the model year or the condition, and we will tell you if a cheaper bike would do the same job. Our rental terms are published in full so there is nothing to discover at return.

How to pay less

Five ways to bring the motorbike rental Hoi An price down without ending up on a worse bike:

• Book a day ahead. The code HOIANIT10 takes 10% off when you book at least one day in advance, and you avoid the peak-season scramble when the popular automatics run out.
• Rent for 7 days instead of 5. At 10% off from day seven, a week can cost little more than five single days.
• Collect from the shop. Delivery is cheap but not free; picking up at 84 Phan Chau Trinh costs nothing.
• Match the bike to the ride. A 400,000₫ PCX is wasted on the Old Town loop. Save it for the Hai Van Pass.
• Share one bike. Two people on one 180,000₫ automatic beat two people on two 110,000₫ scooters.

Walking in still works for a same-day, single-day rental, especially outside July and August. Booking online is better when you want a particular model, a delivery time or more than three days.
