Hoi An to Nha Trang by Night Bus: Fares, Berths and the Dawn Plan
The Hoi An to Nha Trang night bus covers 500 km while you sleep and lands you at the beach at dawn. Here are the 2026 fares by berth class and how to arrive human.
Nha Trang is the classic first night-bus of a southbound Vietnam trip: board in Hoi An after dinner, sleep through 500 kilometres of coastal highway, wake up by the beach at dawn. Done right, the sleeper bus is a minor travel superpower — a hotel night and a transfer in one 250,000-dong ticket. Done wrong, it’s eleven hours you’ll describe at parties for years. This guide is the “done right” version: 2026 fares by berth class, how to pick the calm spot on the bus, and the dawn-arrival plan that separates veterans from victims.

Berth classes: what the price ladder buys
- Standard sleeper (250K–450K) — three rows of stacked recliner-berths. Perfectly survivable, sized for Vietnamese frames; fine under ~1.75 m.
- VIP / limousine sleeper (~400K–550K) — fewer, wider berths, usually two rows. The sweet spot for most Western travellers.
- Cabin class (450K–700K) — individual pods with privacy curtains, sometimes a mini-TV. The “actually slept” tier, and still cheaper than a hotel night; operators like Futa, The Sinh Tourist and Hanh Cafe all field versions on this corridor.
Choosing your berth (matters more than the operator)
Veterans book the middle of the bus, lower deck: least sway, easiest toilet access, no luggage-door noise. The rear rows amplify every pothole — and this highway has a collection. Upper-deck front looks scenic and rides like a ship’s crow’s nest. When booking online you can usually pick the berth from a seat map; that thirty-second choice does more for your sleep than any operator’s marketing.
The timeline of a night run

- ~18:00–19:30 — pickup around Hoi An, shoes into the bag at the door, berth located, earplugs in.
- ~21:30 — the dinner-and-toilet stop at a highway rest area. Eat; the next chance is far away.
- Deep night — the coast rolls by. This is where berth position pays its dividend.
- ~5:00–6:00 — Nha Trang, usually an office or roadside drop north of the centre. Grab-with-data beats taxi-negotiation-at-dawn by a mile.
The dawn arrival plan
The bus’s only real flaw is the 5 a.m. arrival — turn it into an asset with three messages sent the day before: your hotel (early luggage drop, maybe early check-in), your data plan (a working eSIM makes the dawn Grab trivial — our Nha Trang connectivity guide covers it), and breakfast (Nha Trang’s bánh căn stalls open at dawn; arriving hungry at sunrise is honestly the best introduction to the city). Then hit the beach before the crowds — you’ve already gained half a day on everyone who flew.
Bus vs alternatives on this route
| Option | Door to door | Fare per person | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night sleeper bus | 9–11 h, asleep | 250.000–450.000₫ (cabin to 700.000₫) | Best value: saves a hotel night and costs no daylight |
| Train (from Da Nang) | 10–11.5 h + the transfer to Da Nang | ~650.000–1.200.000₫ by class | Comfort, a flat bed, and the best coastal views in Vietnam |
| Flight DAD → CXR | ~1 h in the air, 4–5 h in reality | from ~1.000.000₫, often 2–3M in season | Speed, families, anyone who cannot sleep sitting up |
| Private car | 9–10 h with stops | ~9–11 million₫ per car | Groups of four, door to door, your own stops |
| Motorbike | 2–3 days | Rental + ~400.000₫ fuel | A road trip in its own right, not a transfer |
The train is the one people underrate. There is no station in Hoi An, so you first cover the 30 km to Da Nang — but from there the line runs along the shore for most of the way south, past bays the highway never sees, and a soft-sleeper berth is a real bed. Book the lower berth on the left-hand side for the sea. It costs more than the bus and takes about the same time; what you buy is space and a window.
Flying is faster on paper than in life. The flight is an hour, but you still need 45 minutes to Da Nang airport, two hours before departure, and 25 km from Cam Ranh airport into Nha Trang at the other end — call it half a day, and the cheapest fares vanish in July and around Tet. It makes sense if you are short of days or travelling with small children.
A private car is the expensive convenience: nine or ten hours with the stops you choose, no station and no terminal, around nine to eleven million dong for the car. Split four ways it is comparable to four flights, and it lets you break the drive at Quy Nhon or Tuy Hoa.
Riding it is a different holiday. Hoi An to Nha Trang is roughly 500 km of coast road, done properly in two or three days with nights in Quy Nhon and Tuy Hoa. Nobody sensible rides it in one push, and no rental shop in Hoi An — ours included — will hand you a bike to drop 500 km away. If the ride is the point, plan a there-and-back leg instead, or rent locally at each stop.
Once in Nha Trang, the city rides easily on two wheels — Klook lists scooters with online booking (check Nha Trang rentals →) — and the one big-ticket day out is VinWonders on Hon Tre island.

FAQ
How long is the bus from Hoi An to Nha Trang?
Nine to eleven hours overnight for the roughly 530 km coastal run — board around 18:00–19:30 in Hoi An, arrive in Nha Trang about 5:00–6:00 a.m.
How much does the Hoi An to Nha Trang sleeper bus cost?
Standard berths run 250,000–450,000₫ (about US$10–17), VIP and cabin classes 450,000–700,000₫, on operators including Futa, The Sinh Tourist and Hanh Cafe at 2026 rates.
Which berth should I choose on a Vietnamese sleeper bus?
Middle of the bus, lower deck — the calmest ride, closest to the toilet, away from the luggage doors. Rear berths bounce hardest; most online bookings let you pick from a seat map.
Is the night bus to Nha Trang safe?
The established operators run modern coaches and carry thousands of travellers nightly. Standard precautions apply: valuables in your berth rather than the hold, and pick operators by recent reviews rather than the cheapest flyer.
What happens when the bus arrives at 5 a.m.?
Message your hotel the day before about early luggage drop, have mobile data working for a Grab, and embrace it: dawn breakfast stalls and an empty beach mean you’ve gained half a day on everyone who flew.
Is the train better than the bus from Hoi An to Nha Trang?
The train has comfier berths but leaves from Da Nang — adding a transfer — and usually costs more. The bus picks you up in Hoi An itself, which is why it stays the default for this leg.
