Hoi An Vegetarian Restaurants: 18 Vegan & Veggie Places Checked in 2026

Hoi An vegetarian food runs from a 20,000₫ street banh mi to set menus of vegan white rose dumplings. We checked 18 meat-free kitchens on Google Maps in October 2026, including three that have moved address.

🥢 18 places, all rated 4.6+💰 20K–200K₫ a meal🌕 Busiest on lunar 1st & 15th🛵 All within 5 km of 84 Phan Chau Trinh

Hoi An vegetarian eating is easier than almost anywhere in Vietnam. Central Vietnam has a strong Buddhist tradition, and many local families eat chay (vegetarian) on the first and fifteenth day of every lunar month. That habit keeps a whole layer of cheap, local vegetarian kitchens in business, and over the last decade a second layer has grown on top of it: fully vegan cafés and restaurants aimed at travellers.

This guide to Hoi An vegetarian restaurants covers both layers. We grouped 18 places by area, so you can pick one near your hotel or plan a ride out to the garden restaurants on the edge of town. For each one we list the address, opening hours, the Google Maps rating and the price band diners report, all checked on 14 October 2026. Three well-known names on older lists have moved: Ấm, An Hỷ and Nhật Đa. The new addresses are below.

Old Town and Phan Chau Trinh: six places you can walk to

Phan Chau Trinh, the street our shop is on, is the spine of Hoi An vegetarian eating. Four of the six places in this section sit on it or in its alleys, and the other two are a block away. Remember that the Old Town core closes to motorbikes in the afternoon and evening, so walk to these at dinner time.

V Vegan: the Old Town all-rounder

108 Nguyen Thai Hoc · 11 AM–9:30 PM daily · 4.8★ from 1,235 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 235 3919 109

V Vegan has the longest menu of the fully vegan places inside the heritage zone: banh mi, cao lau, wonton soup, bao buns, curry, tofu in sauce and a seaweed salad that diners mention again and again. HappyCow listed it as fully vegan from September 2023. There are a few tables outside, which reviewers say have more atmosphere than the room inside. Light meals come with rice and soup, so check before ordering extra.

An Hỷ: small, local and cheap

59 Phan Chau Trinh (moved from 29 Tieu La) · 11 AM–9 PM daily · 4.8★ from 399 Google reviews · under 100,000₫ per person · +84 905 916 551

An Hỷ is a family room with fans rather than air conditioning, and it feels like the town did twenty years ago. The best seller is tofu with lemongrass and chilli; the tofu-skin salad, oyster mushrooms and bun cha made with plant-based patties also get strong reviews. Extra rice costs 10,000₫. Older guides still send people to Tieu La Street, where it no longer is.

Ba Đạm: the pick-and-point buffet

71/20 Phan Chau Trinh (in the alley) · 7 AM–9 PM daily · 4.6★ from 1,220 Google reviews · under 100,000₫ per person · +84 905 381 533

This is the classic local chay buffet: a counter of ready-cooked dishes, a plate of rice, and you point at what you want. Soup comes free. It is the fastest meal on this list and very cheap, which is why local workers fill it at noon. Some foreign diners report paying more than the price on the sign, so ask the total before you sit down (see the ordering tips in section 8). Sit upstairs if the ground floor is busy.

Chickpea Eatery: vegan café and cooking school

86 Phan Chau Trinh · 12 PM–9 PM daily · 4.9★ from 1,425 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 372 149 095

Chickpea is on the same stretch of Phan Chau Trinh as our shop. It does vegan Vietnamese and Western food side by side: a tempeh banh mi, a vegan beef burger, smoothies and Vietnamese mains. It is also one of the best-reviewed vegan cooking classes in town, with a market walk at the start; reviewers mention learning how Vietnamese mock meats are made and cooking with chickpea tempeh.

An illustrative vegan spread, not from one of the restaurants named. In Hoi An, plates like this come from the newer cafés; the local chay kitchens cook Vietnamese food with tofu and mushrooms.

Hoa Sen (Tâm Hoa Sen): banh mi and homemade tofu

659 Hai Ba Trung · 6 AM–8 PM daily · 4.7★ from 599 Google reviews · under 100,000₫ per person · +84 932 725 178

Hoa Sen started as a vegetarian banh mi shop and still bakes for it; the lotus vegan special with plant-based chicken costs about 30,000₫. The owner, Tam, also cooks a vegetarian cao lau that several reviewers call the best noodle dish of their trip, plus fried rice and dishes with tofu she makes herself. It opens at 6 AM, so it works for breakfast.

Le Hoi Banh Mi Chay: the 20,000₫ sandwich

3 Nguyen Hue (corner of Phan Chau Trinh) · 6:30 AM–10 PM daily · 4.9★ from 2,316 Google reviews · 20,000₫ · cash only · +84 772 571 573

An elderly lady sells vegetarian banh mi from a street stall with blue plastic stools. There is no meat on the cart at all, so there is no cross-contamination, which makes it a safe pick for vegans too. At 20,000₫ it is the cheapest meal in this guide and one of the highest rated. Ask for không trứng (no egg) if you are vegan.

The cheapest vegetarian meal in Hoi An and the best-rated one are often the same plate. Do not walk past the stalls with plastic stools.

North of the Old Town: Minh Hien, The Seeds, Kurumi and more

North of Tran Hung Dao, around Thai Phien, Tran Cao Van and Ly Thuong Kiet, the streets are outside the walking zone, so you can ride to the door. This is where the most famous Hoi An vegetarian restaurant sits, along with the best vegan café.

Minh Hien: vegan versions of every local speciality

26/16 Thai Phien · 11:30 AM–10 PM daily · 4.7★ from 1,672 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 905 667 743

If you only eat at one Hoi An vegetarian restaurant, make it Minh Hien. It cooks plant-based versions of the town’s signature dishes, including white rose dumplings (normally made with shrimp), cao lau, crispy pancakes and fried wontons, and the set menus put several of them on one table. Diners also rate the stuffed tofu, fried tofu with passion fruit sauce and banana fritters. Most dishes are vegan and labelled. Card payments carry a 3% charge, so bring cash.

An Minh Hiển: the bigger sister on Dinh Tien Hoang

30A Dinh Tien Hoang, Hoi An Tay ward · 8 AM–10 PM daily · 4.8★ from 631 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 905 630 331

A larger room with indoor and outdoor seating and a similar menu: pho, wonton soup, white rose, banh xeo, crispy cauliflower and a cucumber salad that reviewers single out. Some diners say they prefer the smaller Thai Phien original; others are glad of the extra space. It opens at 8 AM, earlier than Minh Hien.

White rose dumplings, Hoi An’s best-known starter. The usual version is filled with shrimp; Minh Hien and An Minh Hien make a plant-based one. Read more in our white rose guide.

The Seeds: the hidden alley café

124/2 Tran Cao Van (small alley) · 11 AM–9 PM, Saturday from 12 PM, closed Thursday and Friday · 4.9★ from 377 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 347 759 983

The Seeds is easy to miss: a narrow alley off Tran Cao Van, shoes off at the door, floor cushions downstairs and a few more tables upstairs. The kitchen cooks entirely plant-based, with little oil, and covers Vietnamese plates (a vegan chicken rice, cao lau, banh xeo, fresh spring rolls) as well as tempeh salad, falafel and desserts. It is one of very few places in town with a proper vegan cinnamon roll and chocolate cake.

Kurumi: vegan brunch with air conditioning

187 Ly Thuong Kiet · 8 AM–9 PM daily · 4.9★ from 2,456 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 984 532 047

Kurumi is the vegan café people work from on hot days: bright, minimalist and strongly air-conditioned. The menu leans Western and brunchy, with a chickpea omelette, a smoked tofu sandwich, a homemade vegan brie that reviewers rave about, momos, bowls (the Happy Stomach bowl is 99,000₫) and cakes. Many dishes are gluten-free. It is pricier than the local chay kitchens and busy at lunch.

iVegan Supershop: smoothie bowls, sockets and Wi-Fi

672 Hai Ba Trung · 8:30 AM–6:30 PM daily · 4.6★ from 749 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 868 173 168

A healthy plant-based café with air conditioning, free water, card payments and power sockets at the seats. Go for the smoothie bowls, the falafel bowl, the toast with pesto and tofu “feta”, or the fried sweet potato. It is not a place for Vietnamese cooking, and it closes early.

Tâm Quang Minh: the local buffet with the cheapest plates

K170 Ly Thuong Kiet (in the lane) · 7 AM–7 PM daily · 4.6★ from 244 Google reviews · 25,000–50,000₫ a plate · +84 905 026 210

The most local Hoi An vegetarian buffet on this list: a big, plain room with a buffet counter of vegetables, tofu and mock meats, plus soup. A rice plate with five items costs 25,000₫ at local prices and mi Quang is around 20,000₫. Several reviews from 2025–2026 report foreigners being charged 50,000–70,000₫ for similar plates. The simple fix one diner used: order from the menu and pay by bank QR, so the price is fixed. Arrive early for the freshest dishes, and note that some noodles contain egg.

Towards Cua Dai: Annen, An Lac and a vegan bakery

East of the Old Town, along Cua Dai Road and the streets around it, the vegetarian places are quieter and more local. They suit anyone staying in the homestays on the way to the beach.

Annen Yoga & Vegetarian: a courtyard down an alley

471/7 Cua Dai (follow the sign next to the billiard hall) · hours not listed on Google Maps · 4.7★ from 242 Google reviews · +84 914 845 900

Annen shares a small courtyard with a yoga studio, away from the traffic. The cooking is simple, home-style vegetarian Vietnamese with a few twists: the mi Quang with pesto is the dish people remember, along with cassava fries, an aubergine claypot and an aubergine dip served with baguette. Drinks are honest: ginger is ginger. Because hours are not online, message before you go.

An Lạc: home cooking and a Sunday buffet

93 Nguyen Duy Hieu, Hoi An Dong ward · 7:30 AM–9:30 PM daily · 4.6★ from 295 Google reviews · under 100,000₫ per person · +84 796 524 882

A family restaurant with Buddhist music in the background and a lady owner who cooks like a mother. Reviewers recommend the cao lau and the vegan pho, and one tip worth passing on: the vegetarian buffet on Sunday evenings. Service is slow and English is limited, so a translation app helps.

Vegetarian bakery at 582 Cua Dai: banh mi number two

582 Cua Dai (yellow street stand, towards the flower shop) · 6 AM–9 PM daily · 4.9★ from 355 Google reviews · around 30,000₫ · +84 898 489 886

The bread is baked on site, and the vegan option without egg comes with three kinds of plant-based meat and mushroom pâté. If you are staying on the Cua Dai side, this is your breakfast.

Worth a ride: Am, Nhat Da and The Fisherman

Three of the most loved Hoi An vegetarian kitchens are outside the centre, between 4 and 5 km from our shop. On a scooter or e-bike each is an 11–15 minute ride, and the ride itself, through rice fields or coconut lanes, is part of the meal. Distances below were measured on Google Maps from 84 Phan Chau Trinh on 14 October 2026.

Ấm Vegetarian Restaurant & Pet Garden: moved, and still worth it

06 Bau Oc Ha 1, Hoi An Tay ward · 10 AM–9 PM (Wednesday until 8 PM) · 4.7★ from 447 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 908 976 578 · 3.9 km, about 11 minutes

Ấm used to be at 33D Ly Thai To, and many lists, including the old version of this one, still send people there. The restaurant is now a garden out in Hoi An Tay ward, shared with the owners’ rescue cats and dogs. The chef cooks alone, so food takes time, but diners call it some of the best vegetarian food they have had: lemongrass and sea-salt tofu, fried rice, okra with fermented tofu, pad thai and a Hoi An noodle dish. Almost everything can be made vegan; a few dishes contain egg.

Nhật Đa: family house, vegan cooking class

Tran Nhan Tong, Thanh Tam hamlet, Hoi An Dong ward · 7:30 AM–9 PM daily · 4.8★ from 654 Google reviews · +84 903 506 425 · 4.7 km, about 14 minutes

Nhật Đa was for years a vegetarian restaurant at 98 Phan Chau Trinh, and Vietnamese guides still list that address. Today it runs from the owners’ family home in Cam Thanh, out towards the coconut forest, as a vegan restaurant and cooking class. The host, Linh, starts with a market tour, explains balancing food the Vietnamese way, and cooks around seven dishes with guests. The family are vegan themselves. Book the class in advance; walk-in meals are possible but call first.

Bowl of grains, broccoli, tomatoes, avocado and boiled egg, an example of vegetarian but not vegan food in Hoi An
An illustrative vegetarian bowl. Note the egg: in Vietnamese, chay usually means no meat or fish, not necessarily no egg. If you are vegan, say thuần chay and không trứng.

The Fisherman Garden Vegan Restaurant & Café: lunch after An Bang

An Bang Beach, Hoi An Tay ward · 8 AM–9 PM daily · 4.6★ from 658 Google reviews · 100,000–200,000₫ per person · +84 905 660 623 · 4.7 km, about 15 minutes

Described by one long-time vegan blogger as Hoi An’s first vegan restaurant, The Fisherman is a garden with hammocks a short walk across the road from the beach. Breakfast burritos on homemade wraps, an aubergine and mushroom claypot, chickpea curry with coconut and vegan ice cream are the dishes diners name. Combine it with a morning at An Bang beach.

Riding at night The country lanes to Am and Nhat Da are dark after 7 PM and Google Maps sometimes picks the narrowest one. Go for lunch, or ride the main road and turn in late. And remember: Vietnam has a zero-alcohol limit for riders.

Eating with meat-eaters: two mixed-menu picks

Travelling with someone who wants pork belly? Two very popular Old Town restaurants serve meat but keep a proper vegetarian section, so nobody ends up with a plate of rice and morning glory.

  • Mẹt Hội An, 49 Nguyen Thai Hoc and 72B Bach Dang · 10 AM–10:30 PM daily · 4.9★ from more than 14,000 reviews at each branch. A Vietnamese menu with a full vegetarian side; lemongrass tofu and pumpkin soup are the meat-free dishes diners name. It is busy, so book.
  • Hoàng Kitchen, 111–113 Phan Chau Trinh · 10 AM–11 PM daily · 4.9★ from 1,525 reviews. Local dishes for both camps, with vegetarian reviewers saying they ate well.
About the “Michelin vegetarian” in Hoi An The 2026 Michelin Guide gives a Bib Gourmand to Shamballa, a vegetarian restaurant at 277 Tran Hung Dao in Da Nang, by the Han River. There is also a Shamballa Vegetarian Bistro at 70 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai in Hoi An (4.7★, 389 reviews), but the Michelin listing is for the Da Nang address. Check which one you are booking.

Why Hoi An vegetarian food peaks on full-moon days

Most of the local Hoi An vegetarian kitchens in this guide exist because of the lunar calendar. Many Buddhist families in Hoi An eat vegetarian on the 1st (mùng một) and 15th (rằm) of each lunar month, and some for whole days around them. On those days the buffets at Ba Dam and Tam Quang Minh are packed by 11 AM, dishes turn over fast, and the food is at its freshest. On other days the same places can be quiet in the evening.

For the rest of 2026, the lunar 15th falls on 24 October, 23 November and 23 December, and the lunar 1st on 9 November and 9 December. The evening before the full moon, on the lunar 14th, is also Hoi An’s monthly lantern night; see our guide to the Hoi An lantern festival dates. A vegetarian lunch at a local buffet and lanterns on the river that evening make one of the best days you can have here.

The flip side: cooks who worked double on the full moon sometimes close the next day. HappyCow has listed An Hỷ as closed on the 2nd and 16th of the lunar month in the past; Google now shows it open daily, but on the day after a moon day it is worth checking before a long walk.

Bowls of cao lau noodles with greens and crispy crackers, the dish Hoi An vegetarian kitchens make with tofu instead of pork
Cao lau as most of Hoi An eats it, with pork. Vegetarian kitchens keep the chewy noodles, greens and crispy crackers and swap the meat for tofu or mushrooms. More in our cao lau guide.

Ordering tips: chay, vegan, egg and buffet prices

  • Learn three words.Chay means vegetarian; quán chay or cơm chay on a sign means a vegetarian eatery. Thuần chay means vegan. Tôi ăn chay means “I am vegetarian”.
  • Vegetarian is not always vegan. Chay kitchens do not use meat, fish or fish sauce, but egg and condensed milk can appear, especially in noodles, banh mi and desserts. Say không trứng (no egg) and không sữa (no milk).
  • At non-vegetarian restaurants, fish sauce is the trap. A “vegetable” dish is often stir-fried with fish sauce or meat stock. Ask for không nước mắm, or stick to the places in this guide.
  • Mock meat is everywhere. Local chay cooking uses a lot of soy and wheat-gluten “meat”. If you do not like it, Minh Hien, Am and The Seeds cook more with tofu, mushrooms and vegetables.
  • Ask the price at buffets first. At pick-and-point counters the price depends on what you choose, and some foreigners are charged more. Ask bao nhiêu tiền? (how much?) before eating, or order from the menu and pay by QR code.
  • Bring cash. Street stalls and family kitchens are cash-only; Minh Hien adds 3% for cards.
  • Gluten-free? Rice noodles, rice paper and tofu are naturally gluten-free, but mock meat usually is not. Kurumi labels gluten-free dishes.

Want to cook it yourself? Chickpea Eatery and Nhat Da run vegan classes directly. You can also compare vegetarian cooking classes in Hoi An on GetYourGuide, many with a basket-boat ride and hotel pickup, or read our honest guide to Hoi An cooking classes.
