Uncle Huan Coffee & Garden — 71/26 Phan Chau Trinh
If we had to send a friend to one cafe, it would be this one. It sits down a lane off Phan Chau Trinh, a few minutes on foot from our shop, and the moment you step into the green courtyard the motorbike noise drops away. Order the coconut coffee or a fresh juice, take a table under the plants, and stay as long as you like — nobody hurries you. Staff are quick and friendly, which is most of why the rating has stayed at 4.9 as the review count has grown.
There is also an Uncle Huan Coffee & Restaurant at 61 Le Loi (4.9 from 812 reviews, open to 23:00), on a crossroads with a good street view and full meals. Google also lists a separate “Ca Phe Cau Huan” at 675 Hai Ba Trung with 3,643 reviews — check which one your map pin points to before you set off.

Me Hoi An Rooftop Coffee & Kitchen — 166 Tran Phu
The best-rated rooftop on the street by a distance, and open late enough to stay through dusk. The top floor faces the roofs of Tran Phu; 16:30–17:30 is the golden hour for photos, which is also when every seat is wanted. Go at 16:00 to choose your table, or after 19:00 when the lanterns come on and the crowd thins.
Faifo Coffee — 130 Tran Phu
This is the rooftop on every Hoi An postcard, and we still send people here for that shot. But be honest with yourself about why you are going: Faifo’s rating has fallen to 4.1 across more than 4,000 reviews — the lowest on this list — so you are paying for the view, not the drink. Go at 07:30 when it opens, take the picture, have one coffee, and do your real sitting somewhere else.
Dudu Cafe Hoi An — 11 Tran Phu
A multi-level cafe on Tran Phu, right in the walking zone. The balcony looks down on the street as the lanterns light up, which makes it a better evening stop than a morning one.

A perfect 5.0 from more than three thousand reviews is almost unheard of, and XLIII earns it with carefully sourced single-origin beans, filter and espresso done properly, and a calm minimalist room. It is also the earliest opener and one of the latest closers here. One correction to older guides, including ours: the address is 326 Ly Thuong Kiet, not 236.
The Espresso Station — 28/2 Tran Hung Dao
Hidden at the end of a short lane, this is where homesick Australians get a proper flat white. The leafy courtyard is lovely in the morning, the cold brew is good, and the coconut coffee is a fair middle ground between western and Vietnamese styles. Do not plan an afternoon here — it shuts at quarter past five.
Hoi An Roastery — several branches, Tran Phu
A Hoi An roaster with a handful of cafes in the Old Town, handy for buying beans to take home. The branches are not equal: the smaller Coffee House II at 186/2 Tran Phu scores well above the busy 135 Tran Phu shop, so walk the extra minute.
Phin Coffee Restaurant — 47/28 Tran Hung Dao
Our old list put “Phin Coffee” at 132/7 Tran Phu, but Google Maps no longer shows a cafe of that name there. The Phin Coffee listed today is Phin Coffee Restaurant, at the end of an alley off Tran Hung Dao — reviewers describe it as a quiet corner in the middle of the Old Town, and it serves full meals as well as coffee.
Egg coffee, herbal coffee and a silent tea house
Egg coffee was invented in Hanoi in the 1940s, when milk was scarce and a bartender whipped egg yolk with sugar as a substitute. It is not a Hoi An tradition, but a few places here make it well.
Little HaNoi Egg Coffee — 18 Phan Boi Chau
Small, quiet and devoted to one drink. The egg foam is thick and smooth without being sickly sweet; order it hot so the foam holds. It closes at six, so this is a morning or afternoon stop on the French-quarter side of town.
Poison Café — 7 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai
Google now lists it as “Poison Café – Gourmet Herbal Coffee”, and the name explains the menu: the name points to coffee blended with local herbs, served in a yellow-walled house near the Japanese Bridge. Sit upstairs by the window for soft afternoon light.
Reaching Out Teahouse — 131 Tran Phu
A silent tea house staffed by people who are deaf or speech-impaired. You order by pointing to small wooden word blocks, and the whole room keeps the quiet. It belongs to Reaching Out Vietnam, a fair-trade workshop that employs people with disabilities. Come for tea and Vietnamese coffee, not for conversation.
In Hoi An the coffee is rarely the point. The point is the hour you spend over it while the street outside does its thing.

Patterned tiles, wooden furniture and the feel of an old family home. The window seats get lovely light in the afternoon. Nguyen Truong To sits just outside the main tourist streets, so it is easy to reach by bike.

Right in the middle of the Old Town, with a younger crowd and a good coffee list. Not hidden, but a reliable place to sit down between sights.

A bright, minimalist brunch spot west of the Old Town (the new Hoi An Tay ward). Healthy breakfasts and good coffee; it closes at four. From our shop it is 1.2 km, about six minutes by bike via Nguyen Truong To.
Cocobox – Juice Bar, Café & Farm Shop — 94 Le Loi
Cold-pressed juices and light breakfasts in a skylit room. The rating has dropped to 4.2, so we now list it for juice rather than coffee.
Roving Chill House — Nguyen Trai, Thanh Tay
Open rice paddies instead of yellow walls. It is 3.9 km from our shop — about 13 minutes by motorbike via Cua Dai — which makes it a perfect half-way stop on a countryside ride or on the way to the beach. Go in the late afternoon when the light turns gold over the fields.
