Guitar Rental Hoi An: Classical Guitar with EQ, 300,000 VND a Day
Guitar rental Hoi An made simple: a tuned classical guitar with a built-in EQ pickup, ready to play by the river or plug into a speaker. 300,000 VND a day, delivered from 30,000 VND.
You packed light, which was the right call — until the evening you find yourself on the riverbank with friends, a few beers and nobody holding a guitar. Flying with an instrument is a hassle and a risk; renting one for the days you actually want to play is not. That is the whole idea behind our guitar rental in Hoi An.

Guitar Rental Hoi An – Best Choices for Classic & Acoustic Guitars
Weekends, holidays and Vietnam’s wedding season are when our guitars go out most. A message one or two days ahead keeps one aside for you.
The guitar you get: classical with an EQ pickup
Our rental guitars are Japanese classical guitars with nylon strings. Nylon is soft on the fingertips, so even if you have not played in months you can strum through an evening without sore fingers. The tone is warm and mellow — lovely for singing along, fingerstyle, bossa nova or Spanish pieces.
Each one also has an EQ, which is what Vietnamese players call the pickup-and-preamp unit built into the body. It turns the vibration of the strings into an electrical signal and sends it out through a jack socket. In plain terms: you can plug the guitar straight into a portable speaker or a café’s sound system instead of placing a microphone in front of it. You can read more about the instrument itself on Wikipedia’s classical guitar page.
The controls on a typical EQ panel:
- Volume — how much signal goes to the speaker
- Bass and Treble (some add Middle) — shape the low and high end
- Tuner — many units have one built in; press and tune
- Battery — the EQ runs on a battery, which we check before every rental
Classical or acoustic: which one suits you
| Classical (nylon) | Acoustic (steel) | |
|---|---|---|
| Sound | Warm, soft, round | Bright, loud, punchy |
| On the fingers | Gentle — fine for beginners | Harder until you build calluses |
| Neck | Wider, flatter | Narrower, easier for chords with the thumb |
| Best for | Singing along, fingerstyle, bossa, Spanish | Strumming pop and campfire songs |
| At Anh Khoa | Always available, with EQ | Ask before you count on it |
If you mostly want to sing with friends, the classical will make you happier than you expect. If you are a strummer who plays loud pop covers, ask us whether a steel-string acoustic is free on your dates before you book.
Plugging into a speaker without feedback
Feedback — that rising howl — is the most common problem the first time someone plugs a guitar into a speaker. It happens when sound from the speaker goes back into the guitar’s body and gets amplified again in a loop. Four habits prevent nearly all of it:
- Turn everything down before plugging inSet the guitar and speaker volume to minimum, plug into the input marked Guitar or Instrument, then raise both slowly.
- Never face the speakerA guitar body pointed at the speaker is the number-one cause of feedback. Stand to the side or in front of it.
- Cut the bass firstHowling usually starts in the low end. Turn the Bass knob down before you turn the whole volume down.
- Get louder on the speaker, not the guitarKeep the guitar’s volume moderate and turn up the speaker instead. A guitar pushed to maximum distorts and howls sooner.
We also rent portable party speakers such as the JBL PartyBox 710, so a guitar-and-speaker set for a beach evening or a villa party is one WhatsApp message away.
Best places to play guitar in Hoi An
An Hoi riverbank at sunset
The steps along the Hoai River on the An Hoi side are the classic spot. Play softly — it is busy with boats and lantern sellers after dark, and quiet music fits the mood better than loud strumming.
An Bang Beach in the late afternoon
About 10 minutes from the Old Town by scooter. Go after 4pm when the sun softens and the crowds thin out. Wind carries an unplugged guitar away, so a small speaker helps.
Small cafés in and around the Old Town
Some cafés are happy to have a guest musician, some are not. Order something, ask the staff first, and keep it acoustic unless they invite you to plug in.
Your villa or homestay garden
The most relaxed option, especially in Cam Thanh or Cam An where gardens are bigger and neighbours further away. Still, keep it gentle after 10pm.
Cam Thanh nipa palm forest
The water-palm creeks of Cam Thanh make a beautiful backdrop for a photo with a guitar. Bring the soft bag — you will be getting in and out of boats.
Getting around with a guitar on your back is easiest by scooter. If you need wheels too, have a look at our motorbike rental in Hoi An — we can deliver bike and guitar together.
A guitar in Hoi An doesn’t need a stage. A riverbank step, a warm evening and two people who know the chorus is plenty.
Keeping a guitar happy in Hoi An’s weather
Wooden guitars dislike three things, and Hoi An has all three: strong sun, water and sand. The rainy months, roughly September to December, also bring high humidity that makes strings drift out of tune faster than you are used to at home. A few habits keep your evening — and our guitar — in good shape:
- Never leave the guitar on a parked scooter in the sun. Ten minutes on a hot seat or in a closed scooter trunk can loosen glue joints and detune every string.
- On the beach, rest it on the bag or a chair, not directly on the sand. Sand in the jack socket or the EQ battery slot is hard to get out.
- At the first drop of rain, bag it. Water on the EQ panel is the one thing that does real damage.
- Retune often in humid weather. Using the built-in tuner every half hour or so is normal here, not a sign the guitar is faulty.
- Unplug before you move. Tripping on a cable is the fastest way to loosen a jack socket.
Something goes wrong — a string snaps, the EQ goes quiet? Message us before trying a fix. Most small problems, like a dead battery, we can sort out quickly.
Why rent instead of flying with your own guitar
Plenty of travellers bring their own guitar, and plenty regret it somewhere between the check-in desk and the hotel. Here is what usually tips the balance towards guitar rental in Hoi An:
- Airline rules. A full-size guitar rarely fits the cabin allowance on budget carriers, so it often travels as checked or oversized baggage, with a fee and the usual worries about rough handling.
- Climate shock. Going from a dry, air-conditioned plane into central Vietnam’s humidity is hard on wood. Cracks and lifted bridges are a real risk for a good instrument.
- Carrying it around. Hoi An is a scooter town. A hard case on the back of a motorbike for a two-week trip gets old fast.
- You only play some evenings. If you will pick it up on three or four nights, renting for those days costs less than the extra baggage fee — and your own guitar stays safe at home.
Bringing your own still makes sense for a long stay or a gig where you need your exact instrument. For everyone else, guitar rental Hoi An style — a tuned guitar delivered to your door for the evenings you want it — is the lighter way to travel.
