Interesting information about Da Nang Train Station

History of Da Nang Station and North-South Line:
Built-in 1902, Da Nang Railway Station still occupies the original location of the city center along Hai Phong Street. It is one of the several stops along Vietnam’s historic North-South Railway Line, and it runs 1,726 km (1,072 miles) between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Completed in 1936 under French rule, this railway was cut in 1954 when the country was divided into North and South Vietnam. The line was also heavily damaged by wartime bombs in both South and North.
When the war ended in 1975, the Hanoi government began to carry out the enormous task of restoring the North-South railway. As of New Year’s Eve 1978, the Vietnamese government had repaired 1334 bridges, 27 tunnels, and 158 train stations – all in less than two years. Heralded as a symbol of a united nation once again, the North-South line has been dubbed the “Unification Line” of Vietnam. Some guidebooks still refer to the North-South line by this name, although many trains, with names beginning with “SE”, now run the line.
Every day, nearly 75,000 passengers pass through Da Nang Railway Station. Demand is so high that the local government is considering moving the station and upgrading its tracks as part of a master plan for 2030.
Outside the station
Da Nang Railway Station is easy to find – just look for the vintage steam engine in front of the entrance to 200 Hai Phong Street.
The station is also quite easy to navigate, being a bit smaller than the stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. However, like many train stations in Vietnam, you won’t find many signs in English.
Main Station, Passenger Lounge and Platform
The main building of the station is located directly behind the steam engine. You can’t miss it—just look for the passengers and the green cabs ahead. Right inside, you’ll find an entrance hall with kiosks for printing e-tickets, along with a few shops to buy snacks and drinks.
If you already have your ticket and everything else needed for your journey, go right through immigration. Station staff will scan your ticket at the gates, allowing you to enter the passenger concourse leading to the platform’s platform. The lounge has seating for 200 passengers and restrooms, along with a display of train arrival and departure times.
Since the station only has three platforms, you won’t have too much trouble finding your train. Simply line up at the central door leading to the platform from the concourse as your train prepares to depart.

Train ticket sales
Open from 6 am to 11 pm, this office is located in a separate building, just to the left of the main station. There are five ticket counters, plus a restroom and a small air-conditioned waiting area. You can buy train tickets here for your journey from Da Nang, as well as other trains you plan to take in Vietnam.
Station facilities
Da Nang train station is small but still has most of the basic things you might need for your trip. If you’re looking for souvenirs or specialty items, it’s best to buy these elsewhere.
There are three shops inside the terminal that sell snacks, coffee, and cold drinks, along with cigarettes, tissues, toothpaste, and other small essentials you might want to buy for your trip. (You can also buy alcohol, although bottle selection is limited.)
A small cafe in front of the station also sells noodles and soup if you need a better meal. However, be aware that most shops close at 5 pm. If you arrive later, you can still get a cold drink from one of the vending machines just outside the main station.
Need to pick up some cash before traveling? There is a Vietin Bank ATM right outside the station, next to the parking lot. Free (and fast) Wi-Fi and restrooms are available in both the main station and the ticket office.
Parking
Parking is easy at Danang Railway Station. You’ll find two 24-hour parking lots located on either side of the steam engine in front of the main building. When you enter, the attendant will direct you to where to park and give you a ticket for you to keep.
Parking is VND 3,000 per day (USD 0.13) or VND 10,000 (USD 0.43) per night you keep your vehicle, car or bicycle in the parking lot.
Luggage storage & Bike shuttle service
The baggage office is located in a small building right next to the ticket office. Along with storing your bags here, you can also come to this office to park your motorbike before you arrive.
How to buy train tickets?
There are many ways to buy train tickets to and from Da Nang station, as well as any other station on the North-South line. The best option for you will depend on a few factors, which are explained below.
Regardless of how you purchase your ticket, remember that you will need a separate ticket for each leg of your journey. In other words, you can’t get on and off unless you have a ticket for that particular ride.
Buy online ticket
You can buy train tickets (including same-day tickets) online from 12Go.Asia or Baolau.com. Both sites offer the option to choose your travel class and train seat from real-time graphics, as well as the option to book ferries, flights, and buses to reach regional destinations and international.
Both sites charge official Vietnam Railways fare plus a small service fee when booking. Each website also allows you to buy tickets on many private Vietnamese bus operators such as Livitrans, Violette, Fansipan, Orient Express, and Golden Trains.
If you book your ticket on 12Go.Asia or Baolau, you will receive your ticket by e-mail. Show the ticket QR code on your smartphone to the flight attendant or print it out and take it with you. It may take a few hours to receive your ticket by e-mail.
Hidden recommends buying on these two sites. You can also buy tickets online from Vietnam Railways directly at www.dsvn.vn (Note that VietnamRailways.com is an agent and not the official website of Railways.) However, in the past, du Passengers reported difficulty purchasing tickets on the Vietnam Railways website using their credit card.
Most lines on Vietnam Railways open 30 to 60 days before departure. But if you travel for Tet in Vietnam, you may find tickets sold a few weeks earlier than usual. We highly recommend purchasing them in advance if your itinerary takes you through the Tet period. We’ve dedicated an article about Tet in Vietnam to help manage visitors to Vietnam’s expectations during this busy time.
At the station
It’s simple to get tickets at Da Nang station — just enter the ticket office to the left of the main station. There is a small ticket machine right inside the main door. Press the button and get a ticket with a number. When the staff is ready for you, your number will be displayed above the counter.
You can book the train on the same day or in advance. At the counter, the station staff can help you choose departure times, train classes, and seats that suit your travel needs and budget. If you want to book other parts of your trip, such as from Hue to Hanoi, you can book your tickets at the Da Nang Station ticket counter.
What to expect when taking the train:
Traveling by train in Vietnam is a great way to see the country’s incredible beauty. Be prepared that Vietnamese trains don’t have the sleek, modern look of European models, but they are quite comfortable (and in most cases, air-conditioned).
Board the train and store your luggage
Attendees may be there to pick up your tickets on the platform, or they may not check them out until you’ve transferred.
You can find a place to store your luggage near your seat or station. There is an official weight limit of 20 kg per person, but you will often see people traveling in numbers much more than that. Just make sure you can manage your own luggage, as there are no trolleys or staff to help you.
Bring your motorbike
Do you have a bicycle or motorcycle that you would like to take with you? Good news – you can. But since it will likely be on a separate freight train, be sure to check when you can expect it to arrive at your destination. It may take an extra day (or up to five days) for delivery.
Take your bike to the station’s baggage office, pay the fee and get your receipt. The valet will put a luggage tag on your bike. Check with staff on what time you can expect your bike to arrive and pick it up at the baggage office in your destination.
Costs vary depending on the destination but expect to pay around 530,000 VND (23 USD) if you are sending items from Da Nang to Hanoi.
Equipment and Facilities on board
On both hard and soft sleepers, you’ll have power sockets, western-style toilets, and luggage storage. These vehicles also have water dispensers for both cold and boiling water, so you can heat up powdered drinks or soups. Craving something more substantial? You can buy a meal ticket for about 35,000 VND (equivalent to 1.50) from a staff member during mealtime. They will deliver a set meal to your cabin along with a bottle of water from the kitchen van about half an hour later. There is also a regular trolley selling drinks, water, and snacks.
If you’ve booked an air-conditioned soft seat, you can find wall sockets on more modern trains (SE number) and toilets (non-Western) at each end. Be sure to bring your own toilet paper if you have chosen this seat! This article has references from many sources, especially thanks to hiddenhoian.com
